Emcee Decay & producer Fluent form the duo City Slick, swooping down
on unsuspecting metropolises with their amazing new LP The Money and
His Fool. In step with the output from their renegade crew Green Llamas,
the LP brings listeners a gritty, somewhat bugged, fresh take on what
hip-hop listeners expect from an authentic listening experience.
The duo works with some different song structures, bringing an unpredictable
feel to the LP, as opposed to the repetitiveness that plagues many hip-hop
long-players. Some songs feature one verse then move on to the next,
while others change instrumentation entirely midway. Fluent plays
the role of spaced out conductor, offering frenetic splashes and
wild sonic textures, while Decay maintains his pace as the
focused narrator, rhyming over what at times can seem
like chaos. That tension adds a lot to the album’s
entertainment value, along with the apparent
fervor & enthusiasm in the crew’s delivery.
